Everyone has them – whether they are written on fading, lined notebook paper and tucked in a drawer or locked in their heads – the “What I Want to Do Some Day” list. Many desire travel; others long for family reunions and some have unique requests to fulfill personal goals.
Residents at selected Brookdale Senior Living communities nationwide were given the opportunity to share and submit their wishes as part of a pilot program called Experiences of a Lifetime. They filled out a survey form explaining an experience they would like to have fulfilled and how that related to one or more dimensions of the company’s Optimum Life® concept, which is geared toward cultivating whole-person wellness through fulfillment in six key dimensions: physical, emotional, purposeful, social, spiritual, and intellectual.
“Experiences of a Lifetime encourages our residents to expand the opportunities of living an Optimum Life® by choosing experiences that are directly tied to one or more of the six dimensions of wellness,” said Sara Terry, vice president of Optimum Life® for Brookdale. “By fulfilling these experiences for our residents, we wish to grant them long-lasting memories while their lifelong dreams become a reality.”
For example, a few residents expressed the desire to take music lessons, which would highlight the intellectual dimension. One resident wishes for a trip to the Holy Land – therefore reflecting the spiritual dimension. The company collected their dreams and will provide a helping hand in making some of these goals come true.
“Experiences of a Lifetime takes the company’s commitment of providing Exceptional Experiences Every Day for its residents to a new level by bringing lifelong experiences to light,” said Terry. “It encourages our residents to keep dreaming and exploring new, untapped opportunities.” The company will select and fulfill 12 resident experiences from July of 2008 through June 2009. Family and friends will be invited to share in the experience with their loved one to add to the excitement.
